Right Worshipful Daniel H. Smith
Born January 4th 1835 in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. At the age of 26 he was mustered in to service for Company H 26th Massachusetts to serve in the war of the Rebellion. On August 16th 1864 at the second battle of Deer Run, Virginia, R.W. Smith now a 1st Sergeant was wounded in the knee. The injury ended his military career and he had a limp for the rest of his life.
Upon returning home Brother Daniel H. Smith became a successful Jeweler for nearly twenty years before fulfilling a long time want and becoming an undertaker.
As a active member of Attleboro Daniel H. Smith was an Attleboro Town Selectman, the president of the Attleboro Board of Trade, and a founding member of the Woodlawn Cemetery Association.
Daniel H. Smith was a charter member of Ezekiel Bates Lodge and the lodges first Master in 1870 and again in 1885 then District Deputy Grand Master in 1902. Also a member of King Hiram Royal Arch Chapter, Attleboro Council of Royal and Select Masters, and Bristol Commandery of Knights Templar.
R.W. Smith entered the Celestial Lodge above on 1913 and was laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery.
