Brother William Bainbridge<\/strong><\/p>\n
May 7th 1774 \u2013 July 27th 1833<\/span><\/p>\n
Commodore in the United States Navy. During his long career in the young American Navy he served under six presidents beginning with John Adams<\/a> and is notable for his many victories at sea. He commanded several famous naval ships, including USS\u00a0Constitution and saw service in the Barbary Wars<\/a> and the War of 1812<\/a>. Bainbridge was also in command of USS\u00a0Philadelphia when it grounded off the shores of Tripoli<\/a> in North Africa, resulting in his capture and imprisonment for many months. In the latter part of his career he became the U.S. Naval Commissioner.<\/p>\n
