Neptune Lodge #441<\/a>, Penang, Malaysia<\/p>\n

Later joined the Prince of Wales Lodge #493 <\/a>London, England<\/p>\n

Welsh surveyor and geographer, and the Surveyor General of India from 1830 through 1843.<\/p>\n

Everest was largely responsible for completing the section of the Great Trigonometric Survey of India along the meridian arc from southern India extending north to Nepal, a distance of about 1,500\u00a0mi. This survey was started by William Lambton<\/a> in 1806 and it lasted for several decades.<\/p>\n

His accomplishments earned him to have the tallest mountain in the world named after him.<\/p>\n
